Secondary School Examination (Class X)

Programme Overview

The Secondary Certificate (Class X) Programme of the National Examination Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (NEBOSSE) is designed to provide flexible, affordable, and quality secondary education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system. The programme is equivalent to the Class X (Secondary Level) and enables learners to pursue higher education, vocational education, and employment opportunities.

Scheme of Subject Selection

Learners are required to select a minimum of Five (05) subjects for certification. Below is the recommended combination guidelines:

Recommended Subject Combination
  • One (01) Language Subject (Compulsory) from Group A.
  • Four (04) Academic Subjects from Group B.

Alternative Option: Subject combinations may also be selected as per the rules and regulations prescribed by NEBOSSE.

Additional Subjects: Learners may also opt for up to Two (02) Additional Subjects (Language, Academic, or Skill/Vocational) by paying the prescribed additional fee.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum age for admission is 15 years (calculated before commencement of the secondary examination).
  • There is no upper age limit.
  • Learners from all sections of society are eligible for admission, subject to the rules of NEBOSSE.

Medium of Instruction

Courses are offered in the following instruction mediums:

English Hindi

Additional regional languages may be introduced by NEBOSSE from time to time.

Important Instructions

  1. A minimum of Five (05) subjects is required for certification.
  2. At least One (01) Language Subject from Group A is compulsory.
  3. Candidates may choose up to Two (02) Additional Subjects on payment of the prescribed fee.
  4. Practical examinations shall be conducted for subjects marked with (*).
  5. The syllabus, examination scheme, and curriculum shall be as prescribed by NEBOSSE.
  6. NEBOSSE reserves the right to modify, add, or withdraw any subject, syllabus, examination rule, or curriculum without prior notice.
  7. All admissions, examinations, and academic matters shall be governed by the Rules and Regulations of the National Examination Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (NEBOSSE).
